The 650S, which before the 720S was McLaren’s mainstay in the Super Series, used to have 650PS (641hp) and 678Nm (500lb-ft) of torque, which is 80PS (79hp) and 78Nm (58lb-ft) of torque more than the newer 570S, which belongs in the Sports Series.
However, Novitec has managed to bridge the gap between the defunct supercar and the Sports Series range by tuning a 570S Spider to 646PS (637hp) and 692Nm (510lb-ft) of torque.
The output was achieved by remapping the ECU and swapping the stock exhaust for a new one, complete with catalytic converters and special tailpipes. The upgrade follows in the footsteps of the tuner’s modified 570S Coupe from over a year ago.
Unfortunately, there are no details surrounding it’s 0 to 100km/h (62mph) acceleration time, but the stock McLaren 570S Spider needs only 3.2 seconds. Moreover, the tuned Coupe can do it in 3 seconds flat and maxes out at 335km/h (208mph), so we reckon its open-top sibling is just as fast.
Novitec hasn’t stopped here, as Woking’s entry-level sports car has been equipped with 21-inch wheels on all four corners. A set of sport springs is also available, and so are some subtle bits added to the exterior, which are made from carbon fiber.
Next time we will see the names Novitec and McLaren used in the same sentence, we will be writing about the 720S, as the supercar appears on the tuner’s website with the ‘coming soon’ caption. With the 720S being insanely fast, we can’t help but wonder what the tuner has in store for it.
